  • The PALM-COEIN classification system can help distinguish the cause of bleeding. PALM refers to structural causes: polyp, adenomyosis, leiomyoma, malignancy/ hyperplasia; COEIN refers to nonstructural causes: coagulopathy, ovulatory dysfunction, endometrial, iatrogenic, and not otherwise classified.
