  • Ocular trauma can occur as a direct consequence of surface foreign bodies, chemical or ultraviolet light exposure, or penetrating or nonpenetrating injury.
  • Most ocular injury is preventable with proper eye protection.
  • A fluorescein examination should be performed to identify corneal abrasions and foreign bodies. Contact lenses should be removed prior to using fluorescein stain.
