Jeffrey R. Avner, MD, FAAP

Jeffrey R. Avner, MD, FAAP graduated from Johns Hopkins University and attended Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.  He completed his pediatric residency and then a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  He is currently the Director of the Pediatric Emergency Service and Division Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx, NY.  He is also Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Co-Director of Medical Student Education in Pediatrics at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine.  He has received awards for excellence in both medical student and resident teaching.  Dr. Avner has been a member of many national committees related to Pediatric Emergency Medicine including the Emergency Medicine Section Executive Committee of the AAP, editor of the section newsletter, contributing editor for AAP Grand Rounds, and chairman of the subcommittee for Emergency Medicine Resident Trainees Fellowship Curriculum.  He has been the program chairman for the AAP Emergency Medicine section meeting for 3 years.  He is currently the course director for a national review course for Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PREP:EM) as well as an editor for a new AAP online self-assessment for Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PREP:E-Med).  Dr. Avner has published many original studies and review articles on a variety of PEM topics but his specific interest lies in the management of febrile children.  His work on febrile infants has been published in Pediatrics, Pediatric Emergency Care, and The New England Journal of Medicine.
