Renal and GU trauma occur in 10% of abdominal trauma patients. Injuries to this organ system can be subtle and challenging to diagnose, particularly in polytrauma patients with other life-threatening injuries. Early detection and appropriate treatment can help avoid lifelong morbidity and increased long-term mortality. Given the subtle nature of these injuries, the history and physical examination are important in determining the timing and nature of investigation.
