The management of hypokalemia begins with an in-depth review of the patient’s medical record to assess for medications that may cause potassium wasting, and a thorough history to assess for any etiology that may cause hypokalemia. If medications are implicated as the reason for hypokalemia, the need for the medication should be reassessed and it should be discontinued, if possible.
