Hypothermia In Trauma Patients
Hypothermia is associated with decreased survival in patients with multisystem trauma.69 Patients with hemorrhagic shock are often acidotic and coagulopathic, leading to what is referred to as the “lethal triad” of acidosis, coagulopathy, and hypothermia. These patients are at extremely high risk for multisystem organ failure and death.70 A randomized prospective study of 57 trauma patients with hypothermia showed that those who underwent rapid rewarming had improved mortality. Patients who failed to rewarm had a 100% mortality.71
