ICH patients should be admitted to an intensive care unit, ideally a neurological intensive care unit (NICU). Non-NICU admission has been associated with higher mortality than NICU admission. (OR, 3.4; 95% CI, 1.65-7.6).168 Other factors that contribute to higher inhospital mortality rate are lower GCS score at presentation, fewer ICH patients admitted to a particular ICU, and smaller ICUs.168
