Colonoscopy is performed in patients with suspected IBD, and biopsies are taken for histopathologic analysis. Many gastroenterologists often concomitantly perform upper endoscopy to differentiate between Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis. While each has specific features seen on endoscopy, there is frequent overlap between Crohn disease and ulcer ative colitis in children. Diffuse colonic involvement is common in both pediatric ulcerative colitis and Crohn disease, and both may have gastric ulcers.47 Crohn Disease
