Synopsis

When a breastfeeding patient presents to the emergency department (ED), treatment should be focused on managing the patient’s condition while avoiding effects on the nursing infant and the breastfeeding process. This article focuses on safe selection of medications and diagnostic imaging for breastfeeding patients as well as managing infectious disease.
