Emergency Trauma Care: Current Topics And Controversies, Volume I
Emergency Trauma Care

Emergency Trauma Care: Current Topics And Controversies, Volume I,, including 18 trauma CME hours

Included In This Book:

  1. 80 pages of evidence-based content, covering 6 critical topics
  2. 18 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM, which are trauma specific
  3. Summarized information to help you keep up with current guidelines and best practices
  4. Treatment recommendations to help you determine the critical actions required when caring for these patients
  5. And much more!

The 6 topics covered in this volume address some of the most pressing concerns for emergency clinicians:

Chapter 1: Guidelines In Trauma: This chapter reviews select evidence-based guidelines from national organizations that are stakeholders in trauma management and provides a discussion of the benefits and drawbacks of incorporating them in your practice.

Chapter 2: Airway Management In Trauma: Management of the airway in trauma is a primary concern for emergency clinicians. This review looks at the most important factors in successful airway management, including avoidance of hypotension and considerations in endotracheal intubation, such as direct versus video laryngoscopy, rapid sequence induction, cricoid pressure, rescue devices, and cricothyroidectomy.

Chapter 3: Resuscitation In Trauma: Successful resuscitation of trauma patients requires a multidisciplinary approach and coordination of care. Damage control resuscitation--including permissive hypotension and correct choice of fluids, balanced blood and product administration, and use of tranexamic acid--demand knowledge of the most current trials and evidence for their use.

Chapter 4: The Initial Approach To Patients With Moderate To Severe Traumatic Brain Injury: These patients pose significant challenges to emergency clinicians. Initial approaches focus on airway, breathing, circulation, and disability. Effective management of the secondary survey provides guides to imaging and correct treatment, particularly patients with coagulopathy. This chapter will address these issues and more.

Chapter 5: Limiting Radiation Exposure In Trauma Imaging: Trauma patients often require imaging, but emergency clinicians must be aware of best practices and the latest evidence on how to reduce radiation exposure while maximizing diagnostic effectiveness. This chapter reviews measures and effective doses of radiation, and it looks at the evidence on diagnostic decision-making, especially in the most vulnerable patient populations: children and pregnant women.

Chapter 6: Pediatric Trauma Update: This chapter offers an organ-specific approach to treating pediatric trauma patients--including head trauma, cervical spine trauma, chest trauma, abdominal trauma, and genitourinary trauma--and it reviews pediatric-specific trauma utilization guidelines.
