+How do I receive CME credit?
Current subscribers have two methods for taking the CME tests: in print or online.
The print CME program has two semesters—January through June and July through December. The test questions are included at the end of each issue. With your June and December issue, you will receive an answer form for the previous six months; please complete this and mail or fax it to us to receive credit. You must score 70% or higher to obtain CME credit. If you are missing a CME Answer Form please click the CME page and click the title of article.
The online CME program is done on a per-issue basis. Simply go to the CME page or "Access My Content" and click the title of the article. Your test is graded immediately and your certificate will appear onscreen. Your records are stored permanently and can be viewed and printed at any time. You must score 70% or higher to obtain CME credit.
If you are not a subscriber, you can purchase single-issue access and CME credit. To do so, order the issue at Pediatric Emergency Medicine Practice single issues.
+Which issues are available for CME credit?
Subscribers are eligible to receive CME credit for all issues published within the last three years—even those prior to the beginning of their subscription term. Subscribers can read archived articles online or print them out in the exact format as they appeared in the mail, take the corresponding CME quizzes, and print out certificates upon passing. To take CME tests, go to
the Topics page, click the title of the article, and click “CME Test” or click the "Access My Content" link on the right side of the page.
If you are not a subscriber, you can purchase single-issue access and CME credit. To do so, order the issue at

+How are your articles created?
Each monthly issue is exhaustively researched to provide up-to-the-minute protocols and advice. Since our primary mission is to promote evidence-based medical decision making, we encourage authors to cite the results of randomized, controlled trials and other quality evidence to the greatest extent possible. The writing process for each article begins with a comprehensive and thorough literature search. The author then critically appraises each article elicited in the literature search, recognizing that not all papers found in medical journals are equally robust. The author then writes the article, which is designed to walk the practicing clinician through each step in the patient encounter – beginning with prehospital care and then transitioning to diagnostic tests, ED evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and discharge. In addition to critically appraising the literature, our articles provide clinicians with a number of important clinical tools. These tools include targeted questions regarding the patient history and suggestions regarding a focused physical examination. We concentrate on the “big-ticket” questions and help the practicing clinician in their search for crucial physical findings. Each article provides flow charts (known as Clinical Pathways) to assist in decision-making. These easy-to-follow algorithms identify the key decision points in testing and treatment. If you are interested in writing, contact Jennifer Pai, Associate Editor, at
JP@ebmedicine.net
+How do you find authors?
Authors for each topic are chosen based on their expertise in the topic area. Most authors have been published extensively on the specific topic and are front-line physicians who know the realities and limitations of practicing medicine on a day to day basis. If you are interested in writing, contact Jennifer Pai, Associate Editor, at
JP@ebmedicine.net
+How do you ensure the articles remain free of bias?
All editorial board members, authors, peer reviewers, and EB Medicine staff must complete a Faculty Disclosure Statement that asks them to indicate if they have performed any work for any commercial entity that has a product or class of products that will be discussed in the program; if they have provided compensated or uncompensated service for any commercial entity; and if they own stocks, stock options, or other forms of ownership in any commercial entity that would appear to be affected by the conduct or outcome of the program. They must also sign a form indicating that they agree to EB Medicine's “CME faculty procedures for disclosure and participation.” Almost all of our authors and peer reviewers report no financial interest with any commercial entity. If an author or peer reviewer has a potential conflict of interest, it is resolved by submitting the final activity for independent, third-party review, by presenting treatment strategies that are consistent with national guidelines, and by basing the information on multi authored, multi database consensus-based recommendations using rigorous evidence-based methodology. Any conflict of interest that cannot be resolved results in the cancellation of the activity. Upon submission of the activity, it is reviewed by two independent physicians with expertise on the particular topic who have no ties to any commercial entity being discussed; reviewers are asked to thoroughly review the activity and to indicate changes. Additionally, reviewers complete a two-page questionnaire that asks in-depth questions to ensure the article’s objectivity.
